List Of Mitzvos

Our request to you is that you should make some effort to keep all of the mitzvos you read about here. Obviously we are sure that you will make special efforts for the one that you finally select, but don’t ignore the others)

Please do pop back regularly to add to the number of mitzvos you keep !

A. Bein Adam LaMakom

Tefilla

  1. Be one of the first at shul,
  2. Set aside one minute before davening to wind down. Focus your mind on Who you are about to speak to.
  3. Concentrate on a specific Posuk in davening every day.
  4. Stay till the end of davening – and for the shiur after?
  5. Establish a fixed place/location for davening each day.
  6. Say at least one chapter of Tehillim each day
  7. For the first paragraph of the Sh’monei Esrei, concentrate on Hashem’s Name that He is Master Of All, and is, was and will be.
  8. In Sh’monei Esrei have special K’vana on the first Brocho and Modim
  9. Go quickly to the bimah when called up for aliya
  10. Avoid talking generally – especially during Krias HaTorah & Chazoras Hashatz
  11. Learn once a week about the meaning of the words of Shemona Esrei / Shema / Pesukai Dezimra
  12. Don’t use the shul as a short cut
  13. .Try not to comment on the Chazan's davening / Rav's speech after leaving Shul.


Brochos

  1. In Kaddish - have special K’vana for yehe shemy raba.
  2. Hold food in right hand when saying a brocho.
  3. Remember to say a Nach Brocho after all snacks – think if anything is outstanding before washing your hands for a meal
  4. Be particular to drink enough for a Borei Nefoshos,
  5. Take at least 30 seconds on Asher Yotzar.
  6. Ensure your hands are clean before saying a Bracha (eg, after cleaning child's diaper)

Kedushas Shabbos

  1. Save a certain food for Shabbos
  2. Give Tzedoko before lighting candles
  3. Bench the children on Friday night – even if its not your minhag
  4. Prepare the candles Thursday night
  5. Be Makpid to eat Seudas Shlishis
  6. Be Makpid to eat Melava Malka
  7. Cover an extra surface with tablecloth
  8. Learn Shabbos Halachos on Shabbos


B. Bein Adam LeChavero

Family

  1. Find one compliment to say daily to all members of your family
  2. Praise children openly
  3. See husband/kids to door when they leave the house
  4. If you are blessed with them, call/write to grandparents once a week
  5. Thank family before going to sleep for something they’ve done during the day,
  6. Try to do an extra Chessed for your family every day (something small)
  7. Work on changing a habit that annoys another member of the family
  8. Don't answer telephone when talking / sitting with family members / give full attention when being spoken to.

C. Generally


Street

  1. Do not eat in the street
  2. Do say hello to people you meet in the street
  3. Do pick up rubbish/obstructive items lying in the street (especially in Eretz Yisrael)
  4. Try not to talk too loud in the street (especially late at night)
  5. If you have a car and are about to make a journey, look for people to whom you can offer a lift.

Daily Activity

  1. Do up your right shoe first,
  2. Wash hands before walking 4 Amos
  3. Do not touch body until washing hands
  4. Take care after cutting nails etc to dispose of them properly (burning/flush them
  5. Take care with breadcrumbs – do not leave them unswept on the floor
  6. Maintain a sensible bed-time to ensure highest productivity during the day

General

  1. Visit a sick /elderly person once a month
  2. Once a month make a Cheshbon of what you may have lent from anyone.
  3. Write a list of people to invite for a Shabbos meal and invite them!!
  4. Bring Torah to your daily meal (learn a Halacha / say something about Parsha)
